Here’s How to Respond to the Most Popular Hinge Prompts

Plus, a comprehensive list of every prompt available to answer.

Swiping left and right on dating apps is tiring, even for those of us with rock-solid thumb muscles (at least that’s one thing we can thank TikTok for). So if you’re ready to increase your high quality matches, it’s time to revamp your dating app profile by responding to the best Hinge prompts.

Hinge, if you’ve been living under a mossy stone in the woods, is the dating app designed to be deleted, according to their marketing department. It’s oriented more towards relationships than one-off hookups or casual dating.

That’s all well and good, but answering the prompts on Hinge can feel like an interview that you didn’t prepare for. What’s the dorkiest thing about me? The answer hinges on how much time you have. See what we did there? Yeah, okay, maybe we are prepared to answer that one.

We’re here to save the day and give you a cheat sheet of Hinge prompt answers to spruce up your profile. Because why be yourself when you can be more like us?

What Are Hinge Prompts?

One of Hinge’s unique features are prompts, or icebreaker questions, that you answer as part of your profile. Hinge prompts are basically conversation starters.

The feature limits the number of boring opening lines you’ll have to fend off, like “what do you do for work?” or the much-dreaded “hey.” Hay is for horses, Jimmy.

When creating your account, you will be tasked with providing a brief answer to three prompts. Then, other singles can choose one of your prompts to respond to. You only get 150 characters to answer, so check your Shakespearean side at the door.

Here’s How to Respond to the Best Hinge Prompts

We’ve included a complete list of all the Hinge prompts available to reply to at the end of this article, but we cherry-picked our favorite 15 to dive into deeper.

1. Two truths and a lie

It’s almost impossible to resist this prompt. Your suitors will just *have* to guess which one is the lie. The common theme in answering all these prompts is to keep it lighthearted, while letting your matches get to know a little something about yourself. Here are some broad ideas to guide your thinking.

Try these answers:

  • Experiences (I played the Cat in the Hat in my high school musical; I lived abroad)
  • Likes or dislikes (i.e. I’m a vegan; I hate peanut butter)
  • Special skills (I’m an avid snowboarder; I can play guitar)
  • Fun facts (i.e. I’m allergic to shellfish; Tom Hanks is my uncle)
  • Future plans (I want five kids; I’m training for a 10k)

2. Let’s debate this topic

Answers for this Hinge prompt can go one of two ways: serious or funny. In this instance, we’d recommend going with humor. Remember that old adage about not bringing up politics or religion over dinner?

Try these answers:

  • Pineapple on pizza: good or a crime against humanity?
  • Which came first: the chicken or the egg?
  • Who’s better: Jimmy Neutron or Carl Wheezer?

3. First round is on me if

The goal of using a dating app is to get off of it, and this prompt is the perfect way to cue up an IRL date. Fair warning: be ready to pony up if one of your matches wins the bet.

Try these answers:

  • you can beat me at bowling
  • you don’t make fun of me for ordering a Sex on the Beach
  • the second round’s on you

4. Let’s make sure we’re on the same page about

Time wasters can GTFO. If you have a major deal breaker, now’s your chance to air it out. Or, you could lean funny and choose something sarcastic. Here are a few options for you to try.

Try these answers:

  • not wanting kids (or wanting them)
  • the fact that Taylor Swift is the greatest artist of our generation
  • country music: yay or nay?

5. I bet you can’t

Bring out the inner competitive spirit in your match by forcing them to show their hand. This is another prompt that can easily lead to a date a la “let me prove it to you.” The best answers to this prompt are witty, flirty, and a little sassy.

Try these answers:

  • beat me in Mario Kart (I call Yoshi)
  • guess my go-to karaoke song
  • think of anything better than grabbing drinks with me this weekend

  • You are not an only child
  • You making (non-creepy) eye contact during conversations

7. This year, I really want to

  • travel to a new country
  • become Mrs. (insert your last name here)

Shower thoughts are the best thoughts. This is a voice prompt, and it allows you the opportunity to go so many different directions. You can get super meta about life, comment on some grave injustice of the world, or just talk about how tacos are sandwiches.

Try these answers:

  • Who is the voice in your head?
  • You never know when the last time you’ll do something is, especially something you don’t do very often
  • Hot dogs are sandwiches, too

9. Worst fad I participated in

  • I hold the record for slowest mile runner in my high school class
  • Expert level moon-walker

  • losing my ability to speak (I’m a huge chatterbox)
  • being ghosted

  • A new best friend (no offense, Jess)
  • Someone to go for a drink or two this weekend – any takers?
